Old Town is the historic core of Gdańsk — densely packed into a small cobblestoned area: Long Market, Neptune's Fountain, the Main Town Hall, St. Mary's Basilica, and the amber street Mariacka. Most major sights are within a 15–20 minute walk of each other, with no public transport needed.
It's the most convenient base for a first visit and short city breaks, when you want restaurants, museums, and the Motława waterfront right outside the door. Gdańsk Główny station is a 10–15 minute walk away, and Sopot and Gdynia are 15 minutes by SKM commuter train.
Two trade-offs worth knowing: the centre can get loud in peak summer evenings, and parking near Long Market is metered and limited. If quiet or easy parking matters more, look at Wrzeszcz, Oliwa or Brzeźno — all on a quick SKM ride away.
